A Chinese business operator was on Thursday charged with bribery following an incident with the police.
Zhu Aiping and Xing Feng Wen were fined $40,000 each when they appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court for breaching the Disaster Risk Management Act. However, Aiping was also fined $50,000 for bribery or nine months imprisonment.
The court heard that the operators were traveling within the Corporate Area when they were stopped by the police at 9:22 p.m., a breach of the COVID-19 curfew that starts at 8 p.m. It was reported that Aiping offered the police $1,500 to withdraw the case against her. Aiping and Wen do not speak English and nodded in affirmation of their guilty pleas.
